Duties and Responsibilities

We seek a highly qualified and enthusiastic mycologist to contribute to our programs in the Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology Department at Montana State University. The appointment is 60% research, 30% teaching, and 10% service.

This full time, 9-month academic year tenure-track position requires that the successful candidate develop a nationally competitive research program directed at solving issues in mycology relevant to Montana and the region and that addresses Montana State University’s Grand Challenges (https://www.montana.edu/strategicplan/improvinglives.html).

Possible research areas include but are not limited to fungal biology and genomics, fungal biochemistry/toxicology, forest pathology, myco-culture, and fermentation science. The successful individual will support their research with extramural funding and publish original research in refereed journals and other appropriate venues.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills  

Ph.D. in plant pathology, mycology, or related field at time of appointment.

Potential for excellence in teaching.

Potential for excellence in research and a publication record commensurate with career level.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other teachers and scientists.

Research Technician: Smith Lab

Seeking a Budding Fungal Biologist

The Smith Fungal Biology Lab at the University of Florida is looking for a full-time research technician to work on several ongoing projects related to fungal systematics, ecology, and evolution. Ongoing projects in the lab include studies on the systematics and evolution of truffles and other Pezizomycete fungi and the CLIMUSH project on the distributions and ecological responses of macrofungi at a continental scale. The technician will also support the fungal collection at the Florida Museum of Natural History. Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) – Mycology

University of Wisconsin – La Crosse

The Department of Biology in the College of Science and Health at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse (UWL) invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mycology. Our new colleague will teach or co-teach Mycology courses including General Mycology and/or Medical Mycology, and depending upon expertise, teach Biology core courses such as Organismal Biology, Ecology, Genetics, and/or Cell Biology. The successful candidate may also teach existing elective courses and/or develop elective courses that complement our existing curriculum. We seek an engaging teacher/scholar with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and with the potential to develop an externally-funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) students.

Required Qualifications:

Research Biologist/Microbiologist/Plant pathologist with the USDA

The USDA, ARS, National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (NCAUR), Peoria, Illinois, is seeking a Research Biologist/Microbiologist/Plant Pathologist. The incumbent serves as a Researcher in the Mycotoxin Prevention and Applied Microbiology (MPM) Research Unit. As a Researcher, the incumbent will conduct research, develop epidemiological models to predict severity of mycotoxin contamination in maize; and determine how future climate predictions might impact the distribution and diversity of mycotoxigenic fungi and mycotoxin contamination in different geographic regions of the U.S. The incumbent will publish peer reviewed journal articles focused on
the epidemiology, ecology and management of ear rot and mycotoxin contamination of maize. The goal of the research is to develop novel approaches to reduce mycotoxin contamination in maize in response to
stakeholder needs.

Research Position with the USDA

About this Position:

This position is with the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station (NRS). They are seeking for a Research Biologist with an emphasis on mycology, located in Madison, WI. This is a full-time permanent position and the selected candidate will be eligible for a full benefit package including health/life insurance, retirement benefits, vacation and sick leave.

The position will be part of the Center for Forest Mycology Research (CFMR) in the Northern Research Station (NRS Research Work Unit 16). The CFMR is a nationally and internationally recognized source for mycological knowledge and includes a large fungal herbarium and culture collection. The mission of the CFMR is to advance the science of mycology as relates to high-priority fungi critical for forest health and management. The person selected for this position will be responsible for developing research tools and coordinating research teams that address specific solutions to problems that involve high-priority fungi for restoring or maintaining healthy ecosystems. The incumbent is expected to undertake research that will apply mycology, plant pathology and related fields to benefit the health and resiliency of forest resources. Further, the incumbent will be expected to engage CFMR stakeholders and other researchers to define forest health-related research needs in the CFMR over both short and long terms.

Qualification Requirements
